Amarnath is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India, the Amarnath Cave Temple is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,888 meters (12,756 feet) in the Himalayas.
The shrine is renowned for the naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam inside the cave, which is considered a symbol of Lord Shiva’s presence. The ice lingam waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon, adding to its mystique.
The annual Amarnath Yatra, undertaken during the summer months, attracts thousands of devotees who brave challenging terrain to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. The trek to the cave, passing through breathtaking landscapes, is both arduous and spiritually uplifting.
Amarnath holds immense significance in Hindu mythology as the place where Lord Shiva is believed to have revealed the secrets of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati.
